Verada Vineyards

Legend has it that the vibrant yellow blooms of mustard that blanket the California coast were left behind by early Spanish settlers. As they made their journey northward, they left behind a path of seeds whose brilliant colors shone even at night. Verada, like this colorful path, winds through coastal California, uniting the character of Santa Barbara, Monterey, and Sonoma in one unique blend of Pinot Noir.

Head Winemaker: Alison Crowe

Appellation: 100% California

Pinor Noir

Winery Notes

We handcrafted this Pinot Noir to represent the grapes grown in California. This Pinot Noir exudes flavors with grace and complexity. The nuances of black cherry, cola, dried cranberries, and currant with a long, smooth finish.

Winemaking

The grapes were hand-picked at night and in the early morning and taken to the winery to get 100% destemmed. After a brief cold soak, they were fermented in small vats, maximizing temperature at 85 degrees F. After being gently pressed, the lots went through 100% malolactic fermentation before aging in French oak and American oak for 16 months. A mixture of light and medium + toast contributed body, richness, and finesse to this elegant wine.

Winery Notes

Buccaneer California Pinot Noir is ruby in color and has ripe berry and vanilla aromas followed by flavors of strawberry, cherry, cocoa, and a hint of spice. The smooth mouthfeel, velvety tannins and super-long finish add up to a spectacularly balanced and refined Pinot Noir.

Winemaking

We carefully picked individual vineyard blocks with the perfect balance between ripeness, sweetness, acidity and flavor and then fermented them separately in stainless steel tanks. The lots were then oak-aged with a mix of French, American and medium/medium+ toast levels to integrate the cask aged characters with the ripe berry aromas and flavors. Patient months of aging yielded “elevated” characters of cherry, strawberry, toast and a little spice.

Grape Sourcing

As Buccaneers, we plundered this Pinot Noir largely from our vineyards in Monterey County, Sonoma Coast and Santa Barbara County. The range of vineyards and growing areas creates a Pinot Noir that is complex yet approachable and luscious on the palate.
